The Invention of Zero [Die Erfindung der Null] (2020)
Michael Wildenhain
...

This German novel records a "game of cat and mouse" between a prosecutor and a suspected murderer, who happens to be a mathematician. The young prosecutor tries to prove that Martin Gödeler, who holds a doctorate in mathematics and teaches at the University of Stuttgart, is responsible for the disappearance of his female traveling companion. Under interrogation, Gödeler essentially recounts his life story, including his love life as well as evidence of his genius, which apparently extends beyond mathematics and includes his ability to manipulate the conversation to his own advantage.

Exciting News: The 1,600th entry was recently added to this database of mathematical fiction! Also, for those of you interested in non-fictional math books let me (shamelessly) plug the recent release of the second edition of my soliton theory textbook.
