| The daughter of a general during the Tang Dynasty is kidnapped by an assassin who can travel into higher dimensions. She is trained to also be an assassin, but cleverly plans her own escape.
Among the creative ideas in the story are a way to warn a potential victim that he is about to be attacked from another dimension and a way that the inter-dimensional assassin can kill a victim using only a pin. But most of its descriptions of higher dimensions are rather standard (ants crawling on surfaces, spheres intersecting planes, etc.). This story first appeared in The Book of Swords (2017) and more recently was republished in the Ken Liu collection The Hidden Girl and Other Stories (2020). |

Where are the new works of mathematical fiction?: As you can see from this chronological listing, this database includes many works of mathematical fiction for each year from 1990 to 2025. Strangely, only two are listed for 2026, so far. Either less mathematical fiction is being published than in previous years or I'm just having more trouble finding it. If you know of any works of fiction that should be added to this list, especially recently published ones, please let me know. (Keep in mind that I do not include self-published works or children's fiction that just covers elementary mathematical concepts.) Thanks!
