A strangled body is found in a supposedly haunted library in England in the 1920's. It turns out to belong to Dr. Potter, a math professor known for being a stylish dandy as well as for his intelligence. Realizing that the murderer cannot be the Italian organ grinder who is considered the primary suspect, Kate Shackleton seeks to identify the true killer. Her investigation turns up the existence of another math professor who is in some ways Potter's adversary. (For example, each of them is trying to make sure the other is chosen for a new fundraising position at the university.) She also discovers his secret side project: teaching arithmetic and algebra to animals! |

Exciting News: The 1,600th entry was recently added to this database of mathematical fiction! Also, for those of you interested in non-fictional math books
let me (shamelessly) plug the recent release of the second edition of my soliton theory textbook.
